Serbia - Kosovo settlement

In the 2020s the governments of Serbia and Kosovo decided that it was time to come to a final settlement regarding Kosovo's status. The Serbian government knew going into the negotiations that Kosovo would become independent, after all those years going back to Serbia was no option. However, the Serbian government made a demand: the majority Serbian areas in the north would have to be ceded to Serbia. The Kosovar government were willing the agree to this demand if Serbia would cede some majority Albanian areas near its Eastern border. The Serbian government agreed to this because Kosovo would cede more territory to them.
After negotiations were finalized both areas were ceded to the other country, resulting in Serbia and the rest of the world recognizing Kosovo as an independent country.
